Description

A simple recipe for a traditional green bean casserole using canned soup and fried onions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cans (14.5 ounces each) cut green beans, drained
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup crispy fried onions, divided

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 1.5-quart casserole dish.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the drained green beans, cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  3. Pour the green bean mixture into the prepared casserole dish.
  4. Bake for 25 minutes.
  5. Remove the casserole from the oven. Sprinkle half of the crispy fried onions over the top.
  6. Return the casserole to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until the topping is lightly browned.
  7. Remove from the oven and sprinkle the remaining fried onions over the top before serving.

Notes

  • You can use fresh or frozen green beans; if using frozen, do not thaw them first.
  • For a richer flavor, substitute the milk with heavy cream.
