- 2 tablespoons hot water (not boiling)
- 8 ounces milk (dairy or non-dairy)
- 1 teaspoon sweetener (optional, e.g., honey or sugar)
Instructions
- Sift the matcha powder into a small bowl or mug to remove clumps.
- Add 2 tablespoons of hot water to the matcha powder.
- Whisk vigorously with a bamboo whisk or a small electric frother until the matcha is smooth and slightly frothy, about 30 seconds.
- Heat the milk in a small saucepan or microwave until hot but not boiling.
- If desired, whisk or froth the hot milk until slightly foamy.
- Pour the frothed milk over the prepared matcha mixture.
- Stir in sweetener, if using.
Notes
- Use water around 175°F (80°C) for best flavor extraction.
- For a colder drink, use cold milk and skip the heating step, mixing well after combining.
