  • 2 large eggs

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 13×9 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the molasses and eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
  8. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a wooden pick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Let the cake cool completely in the pan before serving or frosting.
