Simple baked cake donuts with colorful sprinkles mixed into the batter and topped with a sweet glaze.

- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup rainbow sprinkles
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
- 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 6-cavity donut pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate medium bowl, whisk the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Gently fold in the rainbow sprinkles.
- Spoon or pipe the batter evenly into the prepared donut pan cavities, filling each about two-thirds full.
- Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the donuts cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- While the donuts cool, prepare the glaze: Whisk together the powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons of milk, and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract until smooth. Add more milk, a drop at a time, if the glaze is too thick.
- Dip the top of each cooled donut into the glaze, allowing excess to drip off. Place back on the wire rack until the glaze sets.
Notes
- For extra color, you can add a few more sprinkles on top of the wet glaze.
- If you do not have a donut pan, you can bake the batter in a standard muffin tin for donut muffins. Adjust baking time as needed.
