Description
A straightforward recipe for sweet potatoes coated in a sugary glaze.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced into 1/2-inch rounds
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius). Grease a baking dish.
- Place the sweet potato slices in the prepared baking dish in a single layer if possible.
- In a small saucepan, combine the water, brown sugar, butter, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring until the butter melts and the sugar dissolves. Bring it to a simmer.
- Pour the sugar mixture evenly over the sweet potatoes.
- Bake for 30 to 40 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the sauce has thickened slightly. Baste the potatoes with the sauce halfway through baking.
- Serve warm.
Notes
- You can substitute maple syrup for some of the brown sugar for a different flavor.
- For a richer glaze, add 1 tablespoon of molasses to the liquid mixture.
