Description
A recipe for baked apple donuts using fresh apples.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup finely chopped apple (peeled)
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
- 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a standard donut pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, mix the granulated sugar, brown sugar, egg, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until combined.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Gently fold in the chopped apple.
- Spoon or pipe the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each mold about two-thirds full.
- Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the donuts cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- To make the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons of milk until smooth.
- Dip the top of each cooled donut into the glaze and return to the wire rack to set.
Notes
- Use a firm apple variety like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for best texture.
- You can substitute apple cider for the milk in the batter for a stronger apple flavor.
