Description
Soft, slightly sweet yeast rolls similar to those served at Texas Roadhouse, served with honey cinnamon butter.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup warm water (105-115°F)
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for topping)
- 1/4 cup softened butter (for topping)
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (for topping)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast and 1 teaspoon of the sugar in the warm water. Let stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add the melted butter, remaining sugar, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix well.
- Gradually add the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 6 to 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning once to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a smooth ball.
- Place the dough balls close together in a greased 9×13 inch baking pan.
- Cover the pan and let the rolls rise again for 30 to 45 minutes, or until puffy.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While the rolls bake, prepare the topping: whisk together the softened butter, powdered sugar, and cinnamon until smooth.
- Remove the rolls from the oven and immediately brush the honey cinnamon butter mixture generously over the hot rolls.
- Serve warm.
Notes
- For the best texture, measure your flour by scooping it into the measuring cup and leveling it off, rather than scooping directly from the bag.
- If you prefer a slightly less sweet roll, reduce the sugar in the dough to 1/4 cup total.
