Description
A simple recipe for steak cooked in a tomato-based sauce with herbs.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 (8 ounce) beef sirloin steaks, about 1 inch thick
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Season both sides of the steaks with salt and pepper.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Sear steaks for 3 to 4 minutes per side for medium-rare, or to your desired doneness. Remove steaks from skillet and set aside.
- Add onion to the same skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Stir in diced tomatoes, oregano, and basil. Bring the sauce to a simmer.
- Return the steaks to the skillet. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 5 to 10 minutes, allowing the steaks to absorb the sauce flavors.
- Remove steaks and top with the sauce. Sprinkle with fresh parsley before serving.
Notes
- You can use other cuts of steak like flank or top round.
- For a spicier sauce, add a pinch of red pepper flakes with the dried herbs.
