Description

Simple baked bars with a maple glaze topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup (for glaze)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  7. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the bars cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
  8. To make the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar, maple syrup, and 1 tablespoon of milk until smooth.
  9. Pour or drizzle the glaze evenly over the cooled bars. Let the glaze set before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • You can substitute brown sugar for granulated sugar for a slightly deeper flavor.
  • For a thicker glaze, reduce the amount of milk added.
