A simple and delicious pasta dish featuring Italian sausage and a rich tomato sauce.

- 1 pound Italian sausage, casings removed
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 12 ounces pasta, cooked according to package directions
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, for serving
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add Italian sausage and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Remove sausage with a slotted spoon and set aside.
- Add chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, and basil. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Return the cooked sausage to the skillet. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for another 5 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
- Serve the sauce over your favorite cooked pasta. Top with grated Parmesan cheese.
Notes
- For a spicier dish, use hot Italian sausage.
- You can add a pinch of red pepper flakes for extra heat.
- Fresh basil can be used instead of dried for a brighter flavor.
