Ingredients

  • 1 pound pasta
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain, reserving about 1 cup of pasta water.
  2. While pasta cooks, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
  4. Pour in crushed tomatoes and bring to a simmer. Cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Stir in heavy cream and Parmesan cheese. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Add the cooked pasta to the sauce. Toss to coat, adding reserved pasta water a little at a time if the sauce is too thick.
  7. Serve immediately, garnished with fresh basil if desired.

Notes

  • For a richer sauce, you can add a tablespoon of butter with the cream.
