Description

A simple recipe for making classic Lo Mein noodles at home.


Ingredients

  • 8 oz egg noodles
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 cup sliced cooked chicken or pork (optional)
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1 cup sliced carrots
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar

Instructions

  1. Cook the egg noodles according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the chicken or pork, if using, and cook until heated through. Remove from the skillet.
  4. Add broccoli and carrots to the skillet. Stir-fry for 3 minutes until slightly tender.
  5. Add mushrooms, garlic, and ginger. Stir-fry for 1 minute more.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and sugar.
  7. Add the cooked noodles and meat back to the skillet. Pour the sauce over everything.
  8. Toss constantly until the noodles are coated and heated through, about 2 minutes.
  9. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • You can substitute shrimp or tofu for the chicken or pork.
  • Use any firm vegetable you prefer, such as bell peppers or snow peas.
