Description

A straightforward recipe for a warm apple dessert with a crumbly topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease an 8×8 inch baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, toss the apple slices with the granulated sugar and cinnamon. Place the apples evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the flour and brown sugar. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Sprinkle the crumb mixture evenly over the apples.
  5. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender when pierced with a fork.
  6. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or heavy cream for a richer taste.
  • You can substitute pears for apples if desired.
