Simple Chocolate Poke Cake

Description

A moist chocolate cake with a sweet, gooey filling poured over the top after baking.


Ingredients

  • 1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate cake mix
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup chocolate syrup
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1 tub (8 oz) frozen whipped topping, thawed

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chocolate cake mix according to package directions for a 9×13 inch pan.
  2. Bake the cake as directed on the package.
  3. While the cake is still warm, use the handle of a wooden spoon or a fork to poke holes all over the top, about 1 inch apart.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk and chocolate syrup.
  5. Pour the milk and syrup mixture evenly over the top of the warm cake, allowing it to soak into the holes.
  6. In a separate bowl, mix the hot water with the remaining sweetened condensed milk and chocolate syrup mixture if you prefer a thinner glaze, or use the mixture as is. Pour this over the cake.
  7. Let the cake cool completely, about 1 hour.
  8. Spread the thawed whipped topping evenly over the cooled cake.
  9. Chill the cake for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

  • You can use any brand of chocolate cake mix.
  • For extra flavor, add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the condensed milk mixture.
